AFTERBURNER RETROFIT PACKAGES

The need for clean, efficient and cost-effective afterburners on wax burnout furnaces has grown in response to local, state and federal environmental regulations. PKI was the first manufacturer to offer afterburners as an integral part of new wax burnout furnaces. In response to customer demand, PKI now offers afterburner retrofit packages for our own furnaces as well as other manufacturer’s furnaces.

AFTERBURNER UPGRADES
More stringent environmental regulations may have made your existing afterburner obsolete, or process changes (more shells per batch, larger shells or higher burnout temperatures), may cause smoke episodes even if the afterburner meets the environmental standards. Either way, your foundry faces a compliance violation and potentially costly fines.

PKI can upgrade your after burner to match the current regulations as well as meet your worst case wax load. A typical Afterburner Upgrade scope-of-the-work includes:

  • Engineering Assessment
  • Layout/Elevation Drawing
  • Afterburner Data Report
  • New Burner/Blower Package
  • Insulated Stack Sections
  • Installation Instructions

AFTERBURNER ADDITIONS
Whether you have a furnace built prior to environmental regulations or you are converting a preheat furnace to wax burnout, an afterburner system can be added to comply with current regulations. PKI can add an afterburner system to any preheat or wax burnout furnace regardless of the size or manufacturer. A typical Afterburner Addition scope-of-work includes:

  • Engineering Assessment
  • Layout/Elevation Drawing
  • Afterburner Data Report
  • Furnace Exhaust Transition or Collection Device
  • Fire Brick Lined Afterburner Stack Section w/Burner Block
  • Burner/Blower Package Including Natural gas Valve Train
  • Control Package; Including Remote Mount Panel
  • Insulated Stack Sections
  • Installation Instructions

Upon request, PKI will provide an Afterburner Retrofit Questionnaire, which addresses the technical data required to size and design your Afterburner. Although the engineering assessment is custom to your furnace and your operating parameters, the afterburner system requirements can often be met with one of PKI’s standard Afterburner Categories:

  • Category I: Up to 7.8 lbs. of wax per load
  • Category II: Up to 14.2 lbs. Of wax per load
  • Category III: Up to 28.4 lbs. Of wax per load

WARRANTY
Afterburner System designed and manufactured by PKI are warranted to reduce VOC and Particulate Emissions by 99%+ based on the specified wax load and operating conditions.
